The  Georgia HOPE Scholarship Program offers financial assistance to the state’s students at eligible public and private universities and colleges. Students who graduate from high school as HOPE Scholars and meet the state’s residency requirements are eligible to enter their first year of college as Hope Scholars. If a student fails to meet the academic requirements for becoming a Hope Scholar, he or she will again be eligible after completing 30 semesters of postsecondary education while maintaining a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0.

Candidates who are home schooled are not eligible to apply for HOPE GA Scholarship eligibility until after they have successfully completed 30 semester hours of college and maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0. In addition, students who receive General Educational Development (GED) certificates will receive only $500 scholarships for their first year of college. They are permitted, however, to apply for a book allowance of $300 annually. That depends on whether a student attends a public or private university. HOPE Scholars who attend public universities are awarded based upon a per hour rate at the institution he or she is attending. *Half-time students: $900 per semester, $600 per quarter $3,000 toward their tuition
