Three major scholarship programs for Native American tuition expenses are managed by Catching the Dream, a foundation which awards college monies to qualified applicants. The first, and oldest of these programs, is the MESBEC (Math, Engineering, Science, Business, Education, Computer Science) program. This Native American scholarship aid is offered to students who are studying mathematics, engineering, science, business, education, or computers. These are the career fields in which there are the fewest American Indian graduates, and in which graduates are most needed. Don’t let these Native American college scholarships go unclaimed!

Another Native American college scholarship fund is administered by Catching the Dream and is commonly called the Native American Leadership Education (NALE) program. This largely unclaimed Indian Scholarship tuition assistance is for people currently working in reservation schools and who wish to complete their college degree in fields related to education, counseling, or school administration. The desperate need for graduates in these fields is reflected by demographic statistics: less than 10 percent of individuals teaching in reservation schools are of American Indian descent.

The Tribal Business Management (TBM) program is used to assist people who desire to work in economic development for Native American tribes. These Native American scholarships are reserved for students entering disciplines related to business, economics, banking, finance, hotel management, or management. These scholarships for Native Americans are given to candidates who are considered most likely to benefit the lives of other Native American people.

The TBM scholarships for Native Americans are very competitive; approximately half of the people who apply to this scholarships program receive tuition assistance. The amount of the awards ranges from $500 to $5,000 each school year. Students who demonstrate strong community leadership are most likely to receive money from these scholarships funds. These largely are unclaimed scholarships also.

A number of Native American graduate students scholarships are also available to students of Native American descent. For example, the Adolph Van Pelt Scholarship is awarded to both undergraduate and graduate students who have an interest in education. Likewise, the A.T. Anderson Memorial Scholarship Program is offered to Native American students at the undergraduate and graduate levels who are pursuing degrees in the sciences or mathematics field.

American Indian students studying art have a unique and largely unknown scholarship opportunity to apply for the Al Qoyawayma Award. These Native American Scholarships offer $2,000 each year to individuals interested in studying science, art, or engineering. Certain awards, such as the Francis C. Allen Fellowships, are even available to females pursuing a PhD in humanities or social sciences. Other Native American college scholarships are offered to members of specific tribes, such as those of the Chickasaw, Navajo, Native Alaskan or Cherokee nation.
