Google College Scholarship Program should never go Unclaimed
Google Scholarships

If you are attending college and interested in computer engineering & science don’t let the Google scholarship become one of those unclaimed scholarships which aren’t used up every year because not enough people apply to them. All of the Google scholarship programs have fair qualifying criteria so don’t hesitate to apply and try to see if they can help finance part of your college tuition. They are one of the most unbiased & praiseworthy corporate scholarships that exist today.

There are actually several Google Scholarship programs that are available which Google supports, although many of them will require you to be entering the computer science field, computer engineering field, or a related technology field. Some, however, will only require you to take at least one computer science related course, such as the Google Anita Borg First Years Scholarship Program. Google scholarships are heavily directed in supporting women and minorities going into the computer technology related fields of study. Since this is exactly what Google is all about – computer science, then it makes sense that they would want to lend support to their industry – and what better way to do it? Here is a breakdown of the Google college scholarship programs and what they offer.

Google Academic Scholarships

The Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship offers numerous Google scholarships to students in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. The award amount for all of these scholarships is $10,000. These Google college scholarships are available for computer science related students who are in their senior year of an undergraduate program, or in a graduate program, although the Anita Borg First Years program is available to those who are finishing high school, and about to enter college.

The Google AISES Scholarship is offered in partnership with the American Indian Science and Engineering Society, and is also awarded in the amount of $10,000. Students who apply must be undergraduates or in graduate school, working towards a degree in computer science or a related field.

Google has two scholarships available for students with disabilities. These include the Google Europe Scholarship for Students with Disabilities and the Google Lime Scholarship for Students with Disabilities. The Europe scholarship is awarded in the amount of 7000 pounds and the Google Lime Scholarship is awarded in the amount of $10,000. There is no indication as to how many of these scholarships are awarded each year, but multiple awards are made. For either of these scholarships, the student must be studying computer science, and must be disabled to apply.

The Google Hispanic College Fund Scholarship is intended for computer science students, who are Hispanic. It is awarded in the amount of $10,000. Other Google minority scholarships are the Google United Negro College Fund. It is available for African-Americans who are studying computer science, also awarded in the amount of $10,000. As with other Google Scholarships, no indication is given as to how many of these are awarded, although multiple awards are made each year.

There is also the Google Zawadi Scholarship as well offered for African women who were pursuing an education in computer science at the leading universities in Africa. A Google mentor is assigned to winners to offer support in their studies. When selecting the winners of this Google scholarship financial need is required and applicants must have a strong academic background, display leadership skills and must have been involved with notable outside activities that can be documented.

The 2011 Doodle 4 Google Scholarship Contest is a great method to try to find funding for your child’s education by offering a unique scholarship way to start thinking about what they want to do with their life. Students k-12 can submit their written application on ‘what they would like to be doing someday’ for this contest.

Google Conference Travel Scholarships

Aside from all of these above Academic Scholarships, Google also offers what they call Conference Travel Scholarships where Google will award winners with covering the cost of travel to attend one of the many Google conferences or GooglePlex retreats. They include the Google Women of Color Scholarship for the Grace Hopper Conference; awarded to women of color students in the US and internationally, the Google Global Community Scholarship for the Grace Hopper Conference which is awarded to students outside the US, and the Google Travel Scholarship for the AISES National Conference awarded to American Indian Science and Engineering Society for AISES students only. On top of this, winners of the above mentioned Google Academic Scholarships are also invited to the GooglePlex Retreat with all expenses paid as well.

A Google Scholarship should never go Unclaimed

Google college scholarships have fair qualifying criteria and all are relatively easy to apply scholarships making this a must ‘look into’ for college bound students looking for free financial aid. Simple Advice for Easy to Get Scholarships

The first rule about looking for easy scholarships is before all else is to keep it simple in grabbing the easy to get scholarships. Simple scholarship advice.

Easy Scholarships
Easy to Get Scholarships

The first rule about looking for easy scholarships is before all else is to keep it simple in grabbing the easy to get scholarships. From square one you must find and go after the low hanging fruit, or the easiest scholarships you can qualify for first because they will be the simple scholarships for you in the first place to qualify for and you don’t want to miss their application deadlines. You may automatically receive an easy scholarship simply by applying and filling out the application.

You may have answered something on the application which may simply land you a particular scholarship because of a past activity you were involved in. You must go after every form of financial aid such as scholarships, grants, need based aid, guaranteed scholarships, church education donations, competitions, contest (i.e. – essay) or other awards which will help pay for college because tuition is just so expensive today. It doesn’t matter what they call it – it’s all free money for you to help pay your way through college. It’s all green. In fact they should name it ‘green college aid’.

You may not be the brightest crayon in the box or maybe you just are and the records don’t show it. This doesn’t mean that you don’t need, and cannot get a college education. It just means that you’ll have to work harder than others to pay for that degree. You may think that you cannot possibly be eligible for any easy to get scholarships to apply for to help pay for that education that you so desperately need, but you would be wrong. There are many simple scholarships that are not awarded based on academic achievement or grade point averages at all.

As an example in today’s scholarship world, if you have a special talent, such as duck calling, you could win a scholarship. If you are left-handed, you could win a left handed scholarship. There are tall scholarships available for those who are tall, and scholarships for being short, and even those who are great at playing marbles too. It almost seems absurd that there are all of these types of absurd unusual scholarships, but there are; and good for the students that get them too! We support this – helping student’s pay for their tuition at any means possible. Education really should be free for anyone who wants it in today’s society and this is what motivates us at our website to help students who want to attend college find free money to pay for it; via scholarships/grants/need based aid – etc.

You must think outside of the academic box to get easy scholarships for those who are not geniuses with high GPAs. You can also use a service such as Fast Web, to find unusual or weird scholarships that are not awarded based on academic achievements or GPAs. In fact, you will be amazed at how many easy scholarships to apply for are available that do not require you to have a high GPA or academic achievements.

Roughly two billion in scholarships from service clubs, organizations, and various charities are doled out yearly and it’s estimated over one million students receive them. That works out to be $2,000 every 13th student. The easy to get scholarship money is out there you just have to get busy and start making the phone calls to locate it. This is the easiest way to go about it – calling on the phone or internet/emailing to various colleges. You will have to do both to cover all you need to cover and be effective and make good use of time. The main thing is to do it!

Also consider easy to get scholarships for certain programs of study. For any program of study that you enter, you can be certain that there are simple scholarships available from various different organizations related to that field of study, and not all of them have GPA requirements. However, there will be other requirements, such as being a full time student and pursuing a degree in a certain field.

Guaranteed scholarships are another area to consider. These easy scholarships to apply for are granted based on various things – such as being a member of a certain church or religion, having a parent who works for a certain company, being a member of a certain organization, (i.e.. maybe reaching the Gold award in Girl Scouts resulting in girl scout scholarships) or a number of other factors. The best thing about guaranteed scholarships is that there is no lengthy or competitive selection process to worry about. As long as you have in your background what the scholarship criteria requires then ‘BINGO’ you are awarded one of the easiest scholarships to apply for.

Fortunately, there are also many easy scholarship programs that do require something in the way of a GPA, but those scholarships accept low GPAs – around 2.50 to 2.75. You also need to consider any special talents that you have, and any organizations that are associated with those talents. Many well known brands also have easy scholarships to apply for programs, where awards are made on essays that are submitted. You don’t have to be smart to write a winning essay. You just need to be thoughtful, and use a bit of creative thinking. Calgon, Tylenol, and numerous other companies have scholarship programs such as this.

Paying for college can be hard if you don’t take advantage of all of the grants and scholarships that you can possibly get, and you should never assume that you are not eligible for this type of financial aid just because you have less than stellar grades, or because you don’t have a genius I.Q. There are easy to get scholarships for those people as well, but in a world where discrimination on any basis is going ‘out of style,’ there are plenty of opportunities for you as well.

Weird Gay Scholarships by National Gay Pilots Association NGPA

National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA) Scholarships, offers weird gay scholarships to students who are working towards careers as pilots in the aviation field.

NGPA Scholarships
NGPA Scholarships

The National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA) Education Fund Scholarships, also known as the NGPA Education Fund, or NGAP-EF, offers gay scholarships to students who are working towards careers as pilots in the aviation field. However, there are certain stipulations that apply in order to be eligible for the scholarship program. One of these stipulations makes this fall into the weird scholarships category in today’s scholarship world – but in a good way.

The first stipulation is that you must have some level of community involvement, and preferably, that involvement will be in support of the gay community, including support of lesbians, gay, bi-sexual individuals, and transgender people. The community as a whole is known as the LGBT community.

The next provision of this gay scholarship is that you do not have to be gay to be eligible for National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA) Education Fund Scholarships. Normally, you must be gay to receive a gay scholarship but the NGPA association opens this up to non gay students as long as they meet the other requirements. This makes the NGPA award into the weird scholarships classification because one would immediately think that you must be gay to even be considered for this scholarship for gay pilots. Maybe it’s because there is a shortage of gay pilots and/or the NGPA also try’s to have non gays garnish support for the gay community. Be that as it may this is a solid scholarship with fair qualifying criteria which doesn’t discriminate against non gays and there is something to be said about that. It still makes our weird scholarships list because of this unusual but fair to all qualifying caveat.

Other than your support and community involvement in support of the LGBT, and the fact that you must be working towards a career as a pilot, you must also be enrolled in an accredited school in a program of study for airport management, engineering, aerospace, aerodynamics, or a related field. Unlike many other scholarship programs, you do not have to be a citizen of the United States, and you do not have to be attending a school in the United States in order to qualify.

The funds awarded by the National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA) Education Fund Scholarships cannot be used towards paying for private flying lessons, or private pilot certification. However, the funds can be used for tuition at a Government Certified Flight School.

When you apply for these weird scholarships for gay students, you must fill out the application, and provide information that documents your academic progress and achievements, your community work, any work experience that you may have, extra curricular activities that you have been involved in and of course your financial need. Any awards or honors that you have received should be included, and you will need a letter of recommendation as well.

Along with your Gay Pilots Association application you will also be required to submit two essays with your application. One of your essays must be about your career goals and objectives, and the second essay must be about your contribution to the LGBT community. Due to the large number of applications that are received, any application that does not have these two essays included will not be considered for the NGPA gay scholarships.

Examples of LGBT community service work include volunteering for an AIDS organization, the American Civil Liberties Union, or participating in other organizations that work to support the LGBT community.

If you are granted a gay college scholarship award by the NGPA, your award amount will be sent directly to your school. The numbers of awards that are given out each year, as well as award amounts, vary from year to year, but the average award amount is $3500 per gay scholarship.

Applications for the National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA) gay scholarships can be obtained through the NGPA website, and they must be submitted by March 1st of each year. Winners of these awards are announced during the summer months, with the awards being disbursed for the fall semester following the announcement of winners. If these weird scholarships for gays; but fair to all seem that it may fit into your lifestyle then this gay college scholarship is worth exploring.

Guaranteed Scholarships are Fast and Easy Scholarships

The truely fast and easy scholarships are the ‘guaranteed scholarships’, which are awarded by the college or university, or by certain organizations.

Guaranteed Scholarships
Guaranteed Scholarships

The truly fast and easy scholarships are the ‘guaranteed scholarships’, which are awarded by the college or university, or by certain organizations. This easy scholarship is guaranteed because the student has the guarantee that they will receive the scholarship, if they meet the criteria for the scholarship. This typically means that there is no interview or selection process, and there is no limit to the number of scholarships awarded each year. You must of course fill out all their required application & necessary paperwork to receive your guaranteed scholarship you are applying for, but other then that, you are pretty much pre-approved for the scholarship if your past accomplishments match the description of what it takes to be awarded the guarantee scholarship. You can tell by just reading the required guidelines if you fit or not.

You may be eligible for multiple guaranteed scholarships from the school that you are going to attend, and you should apply for all of them. However, in most cases, you will only receive one of these scholarships from the school, and this is usually the scholarship with the highest award amount.

For example, if you are a member of the National Honor Society and you were in the Boy Scouts, some schools have scholarships for both. If the amount of the scholarship for the National Honor Society is $1000, and the amount for the Boy Scouts scholarship is $500, you would win the National Honor Society guaranteed scholarship, but not the Boy Scouts scholarship. While this is how most schools award these guaranteed scholarships, this isn’t true for all schools, and it isn’t always applied to all scholarships that the school awards, so again, you should apply for every one of these fast & easy scholarships that you are eligible for if they are guaranteed.

Even though you are guaranteed to win a scholarship, based on certain criteria, this does not mean that you will continue to be awarded with the financial aid from the scholarship each year if you fail to meet certain criteria for the retention of the scholarship. For example, if your grade point average falls below a certain number, you may no longer be eligible for your guaranteed scholarship. This is where it stops becoming such an easy scholarship anymore. You must work hard to stay within the guidelines from semester to semester.

Although the type of guaranteed scholarships of this kind offered by each college or university differ, some honors or conditions that may make you eligible for these awards include being a member of the National Honor Society, being the Valedictorian or Salutatorian of your high schools graduating class, being a National Merit award winner, winning certain science fairs, being a Boy Scout or Girl Scout, being a Legacy student because one of your parents graduated from the school, having a sibling who attends or attended the school, having high ACT or SAT scores, having a high GPA, or having a parent who is a minister of a certain religion. Again, different schools offer different types of scholarships that are guaranteed.

As you can see, there is a wide range of memberships and circumstances that can make you eligible for all the various types of these easy scholarships, and again, the different guaranteed scholarships for each school vary. Although the stipends for these awards is usually fairly low – around $1000 on average – each guarantee scholarship that you are eligible to receive will help with your college tuition or other college expenses. It is important to note that there are deadlines for applying, and if you meet the eligibility requirements for these awards, you must apply for them by those deadlines – as these awards are not ‘automatic.’

Get connected with the easiest of scholarships with a guaranteed scholarship which will quickly help knock down your school tuition bill. Inquire at the college of your choice to see if they have any of these fast and easy pre-approved scholarships. The financial aids manager on staff should be able to offer you expert advice on what organizations participate with them in offering guaranteed type scholarships presently. If you have past noteworthy achievements, check directly with those who sponsored your achievements if they have scholarship programs that apply. A little phone work is all that may be necessary to find out.

Simple Advice for Easy to Get Scholarships

American Fire Sprinkler Association AFSA Scholarship is Easy to Win

Apply and win easy scholarships from the American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) Scholarship Program. A fire sprinkler scholarship is not based on academics.

AFSA Scholarship
AFSA Scholarship

If your looking for an easy scholarship, look closely at the American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) Scholarship. The AFSA organization isn’t just about sprinklers. The organization and the AFSA scholarship program are much more important than that. The American Fire Sprinkler Association is a non-profit organization that operates on the international level, promoting education, research, and more to members concerning the importance of fitting buildings with fire sprinklers.

The American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) Scholarship and AFSA organization were established in 1981. Today, more than 750 individuals and companies are members of the AFSA around the world. The belief of the AFSA is that fire sprinklers save both lives and property – to the tune of billions of dollars each year. The AFSA also works with numerous government agencies to help increase fire safety awareness.

The easy to win AFSA scholarship program is intended to increase awareness even further, and this is how it differs from other types of scholarships. Ten winners are awarded these easy scholarships each year, but those winners are selected by random drawing – not by academic achievements, community service, or any other factor. A simple scholarship drawing is conducted.

In order to enter the drawing, you must read the Fire Sprinkler Essay, provided by the AFSA scholarship website and then take a test. There are ten multiple questions on the test, and it’s even an open book test. For each question that is correctly answered, you will receive one entry for the AFSA scholarship drawing. For example, if you answer all ten questions correctly, your name will be entered into the fire sprinkler scholarship drawing ten times. You may only take the test once.

It is important to understand that even though you have ten entries, even if your name is drawn more than once, you will still only win one of the ten available sprinkler scholarships. The American Sprinkler Association Scholarship is a $2000 award, and if you are a winner, the funds are sent directly to your college or university to help pay for your tuition and books.

Aside from taking the Fire Sprinkler Essay test, you must also be a high school senior at the time that you take the test, and you must be a citizen of the United States, or a legal resident of the United States. If you are a winner, you must enroll in college for the following fall semester after high school, although you could also enroll in summer classes before fall as well. If you have been home schooled, you must be able to prove that you had a course of study that is the same as a high school senior. The AFSA scholarship contest deadline is May 3rd, 2010.

Also important to note; make sure that all information that you put on your application will be verified to ensure that the information is true and correct – but that information is not used to select a winner, and financial need is also not considered.

Finally; if you are one of the ten winners of the American Fire Sprinkler Association Scholarship, you will need to supply additional information to the AFSA so that funds can be released to your school. Of all of the easy scholarships that are available, the AFSA scholarship has to be the easiest to apply for – and possibly the easiest to win, depending on how many entries there is each year.

The Truth about Unknown and Unused Scholarships going Unclaimed

Unused scholarships are unclaimed because many college scholarships are unknown to students so they never apply. Awarded scholarships never are used by others.

Unused Scholarships
Unused Scholarships

There are essentially two types of unused scholarships. The first type is the unused scholarship money that people don’t apply for; either because of extremely rigid requirements, or because they aren’t aware that they are available, and more commonly because they don’t think that they stand a chance of winning the scholarship.

The second group is the unused college scholarships that are actually applied for and awarded, but then not used by the student. In terms of the second type, however, those unclaimed scholarship dollars are typically rolled over back into the originial scholarship fund, or awarded to other students as they become available. It is the first type that you need to know about.

The first reason that students do not apply for these unusued scholarships is because they don’t think that they could possibly win, with the competition involved, even if they meet all of the criteria. This is always a mistake. If you meet the eligibility requirements for a college scholarship, you need to apply. Never think of this as a waste of time. Remember that for most scholarships, a certain number of each scholarship is awarded every year. When there are strict eligibility requirements, or a complicated application process, fewer students will apply. What this essentially means is that often, there are fewer applicants than there are awards available, and this works in your favor. If you meet the requirements, and you go through the application process, in this instance, you pretty much have a guaranteed scholarship.

Surprisingly, students are largely unaware of many unknown scholarships that are available in their own community. Some high schools have taken the initiative to release lists of these local little known scholarships to their students, so that they are aware of them, but few have done this to date. When the student talks about financial aid with their high school guidance counselor, they need to ask specifically about local scholarships that are available along with state scholarships too. Encourage your school to put together a list of the local college scholarships that are available, so that more students can get financial aid, and there will be far fewer unused and unknown scholarships that go unclaimed for college.

Parents should check with their employers, unions, and any organizations that they belong to in order to find out about any little known scholarships that are available. Scholarship opportunities such as these are not always advertised. You should also check with your church to see if they sponsor any christian scholarships, and check with any type of organization that students belong to for any potential hidden scholarships. Sometimes, just being a member of an organization makes your eligible, but because so many people do not know this, there are a large number of unused scholarships each and every year.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that standard scholarships only go to the most advanced students, or to the financially poorest students. This isn’t so. While some scholarships grants are designed for the very brightest, or the very poor, this isn’t true of most scholarships. Also, don’t assume that you are automatically eligible for a scholarship and that you don’t have to apply. With just a little investigation into what is available, you can greatly increase the awards that you get to pay for your education with the many unused scholarships that go unclaimed each year. Find as many of these unknown, hidden and secret college scholarships available today and see what sticks. This will make your college financial ride a little more enjoyable.

Scholarship Secrets for those Hidden Scholarships

It’s helpful to find a piece of advice to help pay for college, or some scholarship secrets to help you find some of those unknown or hidden scholarships.

Scholarship-Secrets | Hidden-Scholarships
Scholarship Secrets

It’s always helpful to find a little piece of advice to help pay for college, or some scholarship secrets to help you find some of those unknown or hidden scholarships you sometimes hear about. Are their really any scholarship secrets or a hidden scholarship in which you discover and that will pay you some money towards college tuition? There is a good case in looking as hard as you can for some type of scholarship, grant, or financial aid. There is one quick way to check, but this is not all of it.

It does not require an economist to tell us how rough the economy has been for quite sometime. The cost of going to college has gone through the roof, and throw in the recession with the expanding jobless rate and post high school tuition options seem bleak. This financial breakdown has sent students scurrying in attempts of finding some type of assistance. For many students a secret or hidden scholarship is their only avenue to a college education besides school loans which upon graduation the loans await you to pay off… YUG!

There are scholarships out there and that is no secret but you have to know what you need to do to qualify and how to be chosen for one. Winning a scholarship does not take some secret method passed down through the generations. It takes organization and the ability to do the right thing at the right time.

If you really want to prepare yourself to earn a standard scholarship it has to start when you are young even as far back as elementary school. Parents have to start molding their children into college students of tomorrow. Students need to push to show academic excellence right from the beginning and never let it slip. If students can show that they have been academically inclined since grade school those issuing scholarships will see that they were educationally ambitious throughout their lives.

As much as the scholarship committees focus on academics they often concentrate just as hard on applicants’ community involvement. It is vital that all students who aspire to attend college get involved in outstanding school programs and activities that form a resume of active involvement. It is just as important to volunteer in their community and help to make it a better place. All of this displays leadership and a genuine concern for those who share the world around you.

Technology has made finding hidden or secret scholarships a much more pleasant task. The age of the computer and the worldwide Internet has opened the doors that took an unpleasant amount of time in the past. Students seeking a hidden scholarship can go online and find hundreds of available scholarships. Finding scholarships is only half of the battle. The true test derives from applying for them. Applicants should always have a well prepared resume demonstrating all of their personal success in academics, awards received and school and community involvement. In addition, they should always have a strong essay available listing their career objectives. Students should also have strong reference letters to support their recommendation for the scholarship. These letters and essays go a long way in selling who you are and what you’re about to the scholarship committees.

It does not take some secret scholarship to get a college education. It takes hard work and dedication towards the process of obtaining a scholarship. The process normally begins early in grade school and proceeds right through the senior year in high school. It takes active involvement in school and community programs. It requires a strong resume with excellent letters of reference. There are no hidden scholarships, just secrets towards getting a regular one.

What if you didn’t get the best of grades to allow you to apply for many of the standard scholarships? Well, you still may have a chance. You may have to start calling the colleges you most likely want to attend from the most preferred to the least, because the most preferred may not offer any aid for you and then you move down your list and call to see what the next school may provide for you. What I prefer is to set an appointment in person to meet with the financial aid guidance counselor. This is the best because you can pick up valuable advice which will steer you closer to your scholarship/aid goal.

If you are crunched for time then you may want to do a quick & easy scholarship search. You should not pay for this but many places try to get you to pay. You can go do a scholarship search on this scholarship search engine which is free and seems to be the one most recommended today. You can read more about it at finding student loan scholarships.

I guess the best scholarship secret is that you can find something if you keep on looking and don’t stop until you find your unknown scholarship or hidden scholarship that has always been there. You just had to find it that’s all. It was an unclaimed scholarship before you found it.

Just when you thought you had heard everything along comes the Frederick and Mary F. Beckley Scholarship for Left-Handed Students. No, this is not going to be a ‘left-handed monkey wrench’ story. If you are a senior, junior or sophomore enrolled in Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, have sound academic scores, display financial need and oh yes, be left-handed your a candidate for this strange scholarship. Silly, maybe but you can win a smart scholarship of up to $5,000 just for being left handed. Winning the $5,000 scholarship may not seem so dumb once you deposited it in your bank account though. The next application deadline will be April 1, 2010.

Being tall is good for something else other than playing basketball and picking apples off trees. The Tall Clubs International Scholarship offers a $1,000 scholarship. The somewhat stupid part is that a female has to stand 5 feet 10 inches tall. A male has to stand 6 feet 2 inches tall. If you are shorter than that then you are tough out of luck. These applicants need to be below 21 years of age and preparing for their first year in college. His or her local TCI Club must also sponsor each applicant. Believe it or not this is no tall tale and many may consider these to be stupid, or smart scholarships depending on who you ask.

Some people may think it silly that this next scholarship could even exist. The Gertrude J. Deppen Scholarship at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania is asking for a miracle in this day and age. Those interested must have resided in Mount Carmel for at least a decade. They must also hold a diploma from Mount Carmel High School. It gets better. Prospective applicants cannot drink, smoke, use drugs or even play in sports. It must be hard to verify this award and then stick to it. This scholarship may be stupid, silly, goofy & wacky all rolled in one and other ways as well.

Yes, some of these seem like pretty silly scholarships but sometimes when you need money for college you have to be willing to find assistance where you can. At the very least these wacky scholarships can finally make you smile because in the end they all are really smart scholarships if you discover them, apply, and ultimately win money from them!

Eagle Scout Scholarships mostly Unknown

Eagle Scout scholarships are mostly unknown and come from many organizations. The Principal Eagle Scout scholarship.Unknown scholarships for Eagle Scouts.

Eagle Scout scholarships mostly are unknown scholarships.

Eagle Scout scholarships are mostly unknown scholarships and come from many organizations. We will cover those which are known, and offer the principal Eagle Scout scholarship. The many other unknown scholarships for Eagle Scouts, which are too abundant to mention, may offer from $100.00 to $300.00 and come from various organizations both small and large. Those, you have to research to find out if those places still are offering the Eagle Scouts scholarships. This seems to change from year to year, depending if there was any Eagle Scout college scholarships money allocated for that year from that specific organization.

The two preeminent types of nationally awarded scholarships for Eagle Scouts presented annually by the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA), are academic scholarships and merit based scholarships. The National Eagle Scout Association and Mabel and Lawrence S. Cooke Scholarships provide the academic scholarships. The Merit based Eagle Scout scholarships are sponsored by the Hall/McElwain Merit Scholarships. The academic Eagle scholarship will have emphasis on academic achievements as well as your actualization of becoming an Eagle Scout. The Merit Eagle Scout scholarship primary focus is on the high level of realization from becoming an Eagle Scout, an extreme level of accomplishment indeed.  There are also other Eagle Scout scholarships offered by the NESA which are categorized as Religious, Civic/Military and Institution-Specific.

Academic Scout Scholarship Details

There are four $20,000 scholarships to be used over (4) years college, and a $48,000 scholarship, also to be used over four years, along with a number of other. A miscellaneous number of 3,000 scholarships are also awarded in the academic based category too.

Merit based Eagle Scout Scholarships

A number of $1,000 scholarships are presented every year and are selected from the various Boy Scout regions based on recommendations from the same. Eagle Scouts must be graduating high school and entering college in the year they apply for the National Eagle Scout Association scholarships. The NESA reports that they receive approximately 5000 applications yearly and less than 100 are awarded. Don’t let this discourage you from applying though. Many times we’ve heard that people who applied thought they never thought they had a chance to win. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Apply the original Boy Scout motto “Do your best” and get your application in. The submission deadline for the NESA scout scholarship application is January 31, 2009.

Religious Eagle Scout Scholarships

Emmett J. Doerr Memorial Distinguished Scout scholarships presented by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting. Awards of $1,000 to $2,500 to (3) deserving Catholic high-school seniors who are currently registered and active in Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, or Venturing. March 1st deadline.

Institution-Specific Eagle Scout scholarships can be viewed by going to:  http://www.nesa.org/institutions.html. This is continually updated and many institutions participate, with some (17) at last count. These institutions are all Colleges who place a high value on scouting in one’s life and award that. Both Boy Scout and Girl Scout scholarships are available at most of these institutions.

Although, there are many other entities that provide hundreds of unknown scholarships for Eagle Scouts, as well as Girl Scout scholarships, the NESA scholarships listed above are sanctioned by the National Eagle Scout Association. These other unknown Scout scholarships may not be given out consistently every year by these entities, and they may not be worth the trouble looking into since their award amounts may be very low.

Eagle Scouts have always followed the Boy Scout motto of “Do your best”. Never has their been a better reward for following this golden Scout rule then an Eagle Scout scholarship to college!

Oprah Winfrey Scholarship will never be Unclaimed

Oprah Winfrey Scholarship will never be an unclaimed scholarship because of her celebrity status knowned for her humanitarianism.

The Oprah Winfrey Scholarship Program works differently then other scholarship programs, and the Oprah scholarships will not be unclaimed scholarships by any stretch of the imagination because of her celebrity status which is known for her philanthropy and humanitarianism. Oprah Winfrey has set up (3) different charities which she designates scholarship monies for other scholarship programs of her choice at various colleges and schools.

The (3) Oprah Winfrey Charities which Oprah Winfrey runs and operates through, to provide her scholarships are:

OPRAH WINFREY FOUNDATION
This Foundation is the private foundation which is under the direction of Oprah Winfrey. This foundation is Oprah’s pride and joy. According to the most recent filing, the Oprah Winfrey Foundation has total assets of $172 million. Recently, Oprah Winfrey placed $36 million of her own money in the Foundation, which in turn distributed $8 million to numerous educational, arts and medical venues to be used for her Oprah Winfrey Scholarships. This organization normally will not accept donations from the public. If the public wants to support Oprah Winfrey-related philanthropic work through donations, you would be directed to do so through the Oprah’s Angel Network (OAN) below.

OPRAH WINFREY OPERATING FOUNDATION
This Foundation is a private operating foundation whose current focus is operating the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls – South Africa Program. The main focus is providing monies through endowments to South African schools only. Oprah describes the reason behind establishing this Foundation this way “I believe that one of a nation’s most important resources is its young people, and the key that allows young people to create a better world and a brighter future is education. Now, more than ever, it is vitally important for Africa,” said Winfrey. “Investing in the higher education of individual African women is an investment in positive change.”

OPRAH’S ANGEL NETWORK (OAN)
Oprah’s Angel Network grants awards to organizations and operates projects in under-served communities that provide educational initiatives as well as assist people in fulfilling basic human needs and regaining dignity. Because Oprah Winfrey makes a donation to Oprah’s Angel Network equal to its management and general as well as fundraising expenses, 100% of your donation goes toward program costs. This is the program the public is encouraged to provide donations for. The Angel Network is heavily promoted on Winfrey’s show for fans to help raise money for worthy causes.

Oprah Winfrey Scholarships Operate this Way
If a college already has a scholarship program for people who exhibit a strong financial need, Oprah may donate monies to that particular scholarship program. It must be specifically used for that scholarship program Oprah Winfrey donated the monies for, and it can’t be used for another scholarship program at that school unless it’s authorized by Oprah herself. The Oprah Winfrey Foundations put strong emphasis for empowering ethnic minorities who lack the funds to go through college, and especially women in particular. Oprah’s Endowments seem to sponsor scholarships that directly make an effort to tackle these two groups. Ms. Winfrey’s private foundation was originally established in 1987 to support the education and empowerment of women, children and families in the United States and around the world. Ms. Winfrey’s charities have awarded hundreds of grants to organizations that carry out her world vision.

Example of an Oprah Winfrey Scholarship Program
The Oprah Winfrey Foundation awarded $2.5 million endowment to New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service for the creation of The Oprah Winfrey Scholars Program for African Women. The program will allow African women to pursue graduate studies in public policy and management at the Wagner School. It is the first known of its kind at an American University.

How to Apply for a Oprah Winfrey Scholarship
If you want to apply for an Oprah Winfrey Scholarship directly, you cannot do so. You must contact the various colleges and universities in which the Oprah Winfrey Foundation has donated scholarship contribution monies to, and apply to that particular school. You can then fill out an Oprah Winfrey Scholarship application there. The Oprah scholarship will be augmented along with another similar scholarship program at that school (college or university or trade school). The scholarship will have more giving power and be better able to accommodate more students in terms of scholarship numbers and the amount of the stipend awarded to each student. Ask the college/university financial aids office which you are contemplating going to, if they have been awarded any monies from the Oprah Winfrey Scholarship Foundation, or simply search online for any school which received monies from the Oprah Foundation. If they have, immediately apply. It will surely not be an unclaimed scholarship, simply because of its notoriety.
