Along with matching students with scholarships, QuestBridge also works to assist students in locating their first jobs as well as professional experiences and gain entry into graduate schools. QuestBridge provides the College Prep Scholarship as well as Quest for Excellence Awards and the National College Match. All applicants are required to complete an application in order that their unique and outstanding strengths and achievements can be best matched with opportunities that will fit their needs.

The College Prep Scholarship offers a three-fold advantage for low-income high school juniors. First, this QuestBridge scholarship is designed to assist students in recognizing that a top-level education is possible, regardless of their low-income background. It also works to prepare them for the college admissions process and provides them with practical knowledge regarding how they can gain admission into leading universities and colleges around the country. Students are provided with the potential to receive multiple awards that range from summer programs at top colleges and universities to full scholarships as well as individualized college admissions counseling.

Applicants to the College Prep Scholarship may also receive all-expense paid visits to campuses and invitations to the College Admissions Conferences at schools such as Stanford and Princeton. More than 1,500 awards are provided through the College Prep Scholarship program. While many students may believe it is impossible to attend a selective private college due to a lack of financial resources, the reality is that attending a top-tier private college may actually be less expensive than attending a state or community college. Financial aid packages at many of the leading colleges and universities in the country can cover 100% of a student’s financial need.

The unique QuestBridge Scholarships help to prepare students to make the most of advantages available to them. High school juniors who have a strong academic background and an annual family income of less than $60,000 should consider applying.

The National College Match program is designed to assist low-income students who are high-achieving with the ability to gain admission into some of the best universities and colleges in the country. Through a single application, students are able to apply up to as many as 31 colleges that partner with QuestBridge and be selected for admission as well as a full 4-year scholarship. As such, this program not only saves time, but also offers a wealth of educational and financial opportunities. The application process for this program begins in August. Applications must be received by the end of September.

The Quest for Excellence Awards Program was initiated as a way to offer organizations and individuals the opportunity to create personalized awards. Through this program, students are able to complete a portion of the college application process while also applying for awards, prizes and/or scholarships. This program is specifically for students who are in their junior and senior years of high school. The overall goal of the Quest for Excellence program is to enhance the educational exploration of students with an array of interests and diverse backgrounds. A variety of different awards are given out through this program, including expense-paid visits to partner colleges, iPads and laptops. Along with the prizes, one of the great benefits of this awards program is that it features highly specialized, focused categories that allow students to apply on the basis of their specific professional interests, ethnicity, geography, talents and other individual qualities; which may include being the first in their family to attend college. The deadline to apply for this awards program is March 27, 2012.

Students who attend a QuestBridge partner college will also be part of the Quest Scholars Network. This national network allows members to access internships, leadership opportunities and much more. The QuestBridge Scholarships are unique and a great financial aid tool to help students seamlessly towards a solid all around college path and career. If you are interested in the Martin Luther King Scholarship Program (sometimes referred as the MLK scholarship), you will find that you cannot just search for this term broadly, but instead must search for a specific MLK award. Whether you are black, white, Asian, or any other race, you may be eligible to win one of the hundreds of King scholarships that are available in the name of Martin Luther King, Jr.

You see, many colleges, cities, states, and organizations have their own Martin Luther King Jr scholarship programs, and you may be eligible for numerous MLK scholarships, if you know which ones to apply for. It is vital that you know which ones you are after, and to get this information, start small and then widen your net. This is the reason why a Martin Luther King jr scholarship may go unclaimed because they are hidden scholarships so to speak. You must ask about them at the colleges you wish to attend to see if they have them.

Start by contacting the guidance counselor at your high school. Make sure that you are involved in your community, and particularly that you take part in activities that promote Dr. King’s principles. Participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service as well, and make sure that all of your activities are documented in someway, so that you can later prove that you did indeed participate. This day falls on January 11th each year, and there are many ways to serve. You can sponsor or organize a service project, or join another team to perform a service project.

Dr. King once said “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” Make sure that you have an outstanding answer to that question. In fact, if you make it a point to ask that question every day of your high school career, the chances are very good that you will be well prepared to answer that question at length when you apply for Martin Luther King jr Scholarships later on. If you do not ask yourself this question, or you cannot answer it, you most likely will not ever win one of these conceivably unclaimed MLK scholarships.

Academic Scout Scholarship Details

Merit based Eagle Scout Scholarships

A number of $1,000 scholarships are presented every year and are selected from the various Boy Scout regions based on recommendations from the same. Eagle Scouts must be graduating high school and entering college in the year they apply for the National Eagle Scout Association scholarships. The NESA reports that they receive approximately 5000 applications yearly and less than 100 are awarded. Don’t let this discourage you from applying though. Many times we’ve heard that people who applied thought they never thought they had a chance to win. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Apply the original Boy Scout motto “Do your best” and get your application in. The submission deadline for the NESA scout scholarship application is January 31, 2009.

Religious Eagle Scout Scholarships

Emmett J. Doerr Memorial Distinguished Scout scholarships presented by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting. Awards of $1,000 to $2,500 to (3) deserving Catholic high-school seniors who are currently registered and active in Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, or Venturing. March 1st deadline.

Chester M. Vernon Memorial Eagle Scout Scholarship awarded by the National Jewish Committee on Scouting of $1,000. Deadline is February 28th.

Frank L. Weil Memorial Eagle Scout Scholarship presented by the National Jewish Committee on Scouting for $1,000 and (2) runners-up of $500 each. Deadline is February 28th.

Eastern Orthodox Scouting Scholarships sponsored by Eastern Orthodox Committee on scouting awards three one-time merit-based scholarships from $500 to $1000. Deadline is May 1st.

Civic/Military Eagle Scout Scholarships

American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year awards (1) $10,000 scholarship to its Eagle Scout of the Year, and (3) second-place scholarships of $2,500 each. March 1st is the deadline.

Arthur M. & Berdena King Eagle Scout Scholarship presented by the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. Three scholarships are awarded: $8,000 (1st place), $4,000 (2nd place), and $2,000 (3rd place). Deadline will vary by state and chapter.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Scout of the Year presented by The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. One $5,000 Scout scholarship annually. The deadline is March 1st.

Institution-Specific Eagle Scout scholarships can be viewed by going to: http://www.nesa.org/institutions.html. This is continually updated and many institutions participate, with some (17) at last count. These institutions are all Colleges who place a high value on scouting in one’s life and award that. Both Boy Scout and Girl Scout scholarships are available at most of these institutions.

Although, there are many other entities that provide hundreds of unknown scholarships for Eagle Scouts, as well as Girl Scout scholarships, the NESA scholarships listed above are sanctioned by the National Eagle Scout Association. These other unknown Scout scholarships may not be given out consistently every year by these entities, and they may not be worth the trouble looking into since their award amounts may be very low.

Eagle Scouts have always followed the Boy Scout motto of “Do your best”. Never has their been a better reward for following this golden Scout rule then an Eagle Scout scholarship to college!

This Foundation is the private foundation which is under the direction of Oprah Winfrey. This foundation is Oprah’s pride and joy. According to the most recent filing, the Oprah Winfrey Foundation has total assets of $172 million. Recently, Oprah Winfrey placed $36 million of her own money in the Foundation, which in turn distributed $8 million to numerous educational, arts and medical venues to be used for her Oprah Winfrey Scholarships. This organization normally will not accept donations from the public. If the public wants to support Oprah Winfrey-related philanthropic work through donations, you would be directed to do so through the Oprah’s Angel Network (OAN) below.

OPRAH WINFREY OPERATING FOUNDATION
This Foundation is a private operating foundation whose current focus is operating the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls – South Africa Program. The main focus is providing monies through endowments to South African schools only. Oprah describes the reason behind establishing this Foundation this way “I believe that one of a nation’s most important resources is its young people, and the key that allows young people to create a better world and a brighter future is education. Now, more than ever, it is vitally important for Africa,” said Winfrey. “Investing in the higher education of individual African women is an investment in positive change.”

OPRAH’S ANGEL NETWORK (OAN)
Oprah’s Angel Network grants awards to organizations and operates projects in under-served communities that provide educational initiatives as well as assist people in fulfilling basic human needs and regaining dignity. Because Oprah Winfrey makes a donation to Oprah’s Angel Network equal to its management and general as well as fundraising expenses, 100% of your donation goes toward program costs. How to Apply for a Oprah Winfrey Scholarship
If you want to apply for an Oprah Winfrey Scholarship directly, you cannot do so. You must contact the various colleges and universities in which the Oprah Winfrey Foundation has donated scholarship contribution monies to, and apply to that particular school. You can then fill out an Oprah Winfrey Scholarship application there. The Oprah scholarship will be augmented along with another similar scholarship program at that school (college or university or trade school). The scholarship will have more giving power and be better able to accommodate more students in terms of scholarship numbers and the amount of the stipend awarded to each student. Ask the college/university financial aids office which you are contemplating going to, if they have been awarded any monies from the Oprah Winfrey Scholarship Foundation, or simply search online for any school which received monies from the Oprah Foundation. If they have, immediately apply. It will surely not be an unclaimed scholarship, simply because of its notoriety.

College Spring Break like a Wacky Scholarship

A college spring break is like wacky scholarships. You never know how bizzare they will be until you accept them and go. How each student decides what their college spring break vacation will be is more a personal matter. While you may see a lot of shows showing college students jetting off for fun and parties on the beach, most actually prefer to do something else. After just completing testing for all their classes, some students tend to go nuts and enjoy the party life to blow off steam. While others have different ideas of what it means to relax. Those going off to the beach are a travel agents dream, but as a parent, you may not be able to pay for college spring break vacations.

Though I always went home to hang out with my family and friends during college spring break, I realize that some simply don’t want to do that. You don’t have to go to the beach to have a good time, especially if that is not something you would normally do anyway. You could go almost anywhere. Some of my friends would organize road trips and just travel in a general direction for college spring break. They would stop where they thought something looked interesting, and stayed wherever they ended up at the end of the day. For me, I would rather do that then go to the beach any day.

When I started to get serious about my studies I would skip college spring break fun all together and do more studying. You can do this, but it may not be such a good idea. Your brains need a chance to recharge. You may actually get more out of your studies if you take some time away from them, even if it’s only a few days of your college spring break. You can burn out slowly without realizing it in college with all the testing.

My Sring Break Vacation Suggestion
Recharge your batteries from your unusual wacky scholarship and take a not so wacky college spring break and do nothing. Take it slow and easy. You’ll thank yourself.

The Indian American Scholarship for College by IASF is a vehicle to help high school students for their college education. The IASF provides scholarships for Indian Americans based on their merit and financial need. IASF has been set-up by the Indian American Cultural Association (IACA) to promote education for the students of Indian community in Georgia.

Recently, Target was also responsible for endowing another minority scholarship fund. The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) received enough monies from Target Corporation to offer 50 additional HSF scholarships. This minority scholarship provider requires students to maintain a 3.0 GPA, to be a legal citizen or permanent resident of the United States, and to have a Hispanic ethnic heritage.

In addition to these requirements, HSF Scholarship students must attend an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree program at an accredited college in the 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the Virgin Islands. Students pursuing their first undergraduate degree in most public relations or business-related fields may apply. Graduate students who apply must be studying business administration or management. Some awards are also available for pharmacy scholarships. The amount of each Target scholarship varies, but awards range from $1,000 to $5,000.

Target Corporation has been responsible for several scholarship funding ventures. Students who meet the criteria for these scholarships can apply online without charge. If you might be eligible for a Target scholarships, do not let the opportunity for funding part of your college education pass you by.
