The Siemens Scholarship Program

The Siemens scholarship program is provided every year through a partnership between Siemens and the American Society for Clinical Pathology.

siemens-scholarship
The Siemens Scholarships

The Siemens scholarship program is provided every year through a partnership between Siemens and the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Through this partnership there are at least three different Siemens scholarships for healthcare diagnostics available to students who meet the eligibility requirements and have the chops to make it through to selection. On top of the Siemens scholarship program, the Siemens Foundation itself funds a number of merit scholarships which are designed to competitively award the children of employees based on academic performance, volunteer work and general interest in their chosen fields of interest. These programs are almost entirely made possible by the Siemens Foundation which has a special interest in supporting programs that focus on science, math and technology. The group gives out over 7 million dollars every year to deserving groups, foundations and individuals to see towards pushing their interest in technology, science, math and providing students with financial assistance towards higher education goals. All of the Siemens scholarships are little known by most students thinking about aid for college.

As mentioned above, the Siemens scholarship as provided through the American Society for Clinical Pathology is a great source for financial assistance. There are three forms of this program – the general scholarship, the legacy program and the graduate support initiative. While all based on similar concepts, they do vary with regards to the amounts given out and eligibility criteria. The deadline for all programs are posted after August when the application process opens up, so students interested in them should keep their eyes on the website to make sure they do not miss any important dates.

The Siemens general scholarship gives out 50 different $1,000 awards every year. Students who are interested in this program will need to be enrolled in an accredited program, be in their fourth year of clinical studies, have at least a 2.8 grade point average and be a United States citizen. Looking now to the Siemens healthcare diagnostics student legacy scholarship readers will see that some of the requirements do in fact change. While students will still need to be enrolled in an accredited program, children of healthcare diagnosticians may apply to it so long as they maintain a 2.8 grade point average and are United States citizens. This second program provides $2,000 to ten different students. Finally, the Siemens graduate scholarship sees not only a change in eligibility but also an increase in the difficulty of applying. All applicants are expected to be enrolled and actively a part of a graduate program, already involved in a graduate project, hold a certificate in healthcare diagnosis, have at least a 3.0 grade point average and be United States citizens. The graduate scholarship program gives out $1,000 to five different students every year.

This is of course not the only type of scholarship given out by the Siemens company Foundation. Every year the foundation also awards a number of merit-based scholarships of $6,000. These Siemens merit scholarships last for a total of four years with $1,500 being disbursed each academic cycle. All applicants should be US citizens, have taken the Preliminary SAT during their junior year of high school, be planning to enter college full time the next fall and maintain their academic strength while attending college. Further all students applying to the program must be children of current Siemens employees. Applications are due no later than April 1 of every year. In 2010 and 2011 60 different students receiveawards through the Siemens merit scholarship program.

All in all, the Siemens Foundation is one of the more charitable organizations out there with regards to providing financial assistance for the purpose of higher education. Their interest in providing assistance to students who are looking for careers in health is incredibly clear through their participation with American Society for Clinical Pathology. Between all of the programs they provide aid through, the Siemens healthcare diagnostics student graduate scholarship and merit based Siemens scholarship cumulatively end up with at least 125 different awards every year. It’s may be well worth your while applying to these unknown scholarships with so many being given out annually.

Many of these unknown scholarships are not specifically called atheist or agnostic scholarships, so you may have to poke around for them a bit more but there are still quite a few out there. Subway Scholarships are Little Known

The fast food Subway scholarships are one example of corporate businesses that seek to encourage its workers to further their education via Subway and beyond.

Subway Scholarships

Many businesses offer little known corporate scholarships to current or former employees and often extend eligibility to employees’ family members. The fast food Subway scholarships are one example of businesses that seek to encourage its workers to further their education and pursue their dreams at Subway and beyond. Corporate scholarships are becoming more and more common and while once underutilized by students searching for scholarship money, awareness of these is growing. Even smaller companies are starting to offer scholarships. Not all companies require employment with the business for eligibility, so you should still investigate this type of scholarship. Many corporations, like Subway, offer college scholarships for a variety of reasons: to promote education and their business, to enrich the lives of community members, even as advertisement or a public relations move. If you have worked at a large company or franchised corporation, you should definitely inquire about corporate scholarship opportunities as they may not be highly publicized.

Fred DeLuca, Subway’s founder values education. In fact, the idea for the Subway Corporation was born directly from DeLuca’s own desire to further his education past a high school diploma. As a 17-year old high school graduate in 1965, he did not have the money to continue on to college. Instead, he and family friend Peter Buck opened a submarine sandwich shop as a means to earn the money needed. Within 10 years they had more than financed their futures, having opened 16 stores in Connecticut with many more to follow. Subway had been born from dedication, hard work and dreams – all of which the owners hope for and expect from their employees. The Subway scholarship was a natural way to invest in all of those things and for DeLuca and Buck to give back to Subway employees.

Subway employees and their children are eligible for a subway college scholarship if a few requirements are met. Employees must have worked for Subway for at least 15 hours a week for six months and parent employees with children seeking a scholarship must work for a minimum of 30 hours a week. Students must be attend an accredited two- or four- year college anywhere in the world and maintain a 2.75 or higher GPA. Offering these unknown scholarships coincides with Subway’s emphasis on family. They seek to build strong relationships between all employees, the community, and the business, as individuals within a family must. The Subway Corporation wants to help take care of the people who have helped to make Subway a success.

Most Subway scholarships are $1000 and are distributed to the college of choice in two semester increments, during the student’s freshmen year. It is important to check the fast food scholarships by Subway specifically available in your state of residence, as some states may have Sub scholarships that range up to $3000. For instance, Subway of South Carolina offers a $3000 obscure scholarship. All the fast food scholarship applications are accepted between the months of September and November with a winner being announced in late November or early December. Recipients are chosen based on the perceived ability of the applicant to succeed in their chosen area of study and on his/her academic merit. It does not matter what that subject matter is as long as the student seems dedicated to it and able to succeed in it.

Since Subways are now franchised, the remote scholarship in a given city or area may have more specific criteria, based on the employers interests or decisions. Many Subway scholarships are even named after an influential former/current employee to serve as an honor to that individual and a statement about the type of individual being sought for recognition. When searching for the correct little known scholarship from Subway for you, make sure you find the award affiliated with the Subway in which you were employed or at a minimum, the state Subway Scholarship Committee in which you reside. You can email Subway at thornberg_@subway.com to find out which affiliates you can contact for your area, or use the contact information below to call them direct. Some affiliates will even provide scholarships for students who have no affiliation with the company whatsoever and who are looking for student aid.

Green Scholarships

The emphasis on reducing one’s environmental footprint has created a wealth of professions from organic nutritionists to wetland ecologists. Consequently, green scholarships for environmental studies are growing in number as more students are pursuing diverse fields of study which fall into the “green” category. One of the difficult things about searching for this type of environmental scholarship is that not all which are technically green are searchable with that terminology, so you should search with this broad terminology but also with many variations and with specific keywords, as well. There are many of these types of unknown green scholarships for the environment with a few of the top examples listed below.

The Gloria Barron Wilderness Society Scholarship for the environment is awarded to graduate students in honor of Gloria Barron who sought to protect all aspects of the wilderness. Students will write an essay about the project and will automatically be eligible for one of three $850 green environment scholarships. Singer John Denver and Thomas Crum co-founded The Windstar Foundation which awards several undergraduate environmental scholarships for green students and one graduate scholarship “”To inspire individuals to make responsible choices and take direct personal actions to achieve a peaceful and environmentally sustainable future.” The undergraduate green scholarships are $500 while the graduate scholarship is awarded to students in their second year of graduate school and is $1000. Applicants should have a college GPA of 3.0 or better in their selected major of Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering or some other major focused on environmental studies. Hard copy applications are no longer accepted and electronic application must be received by June 1, 2011.

The Dr. Wesley Eckenfelder Scholarship honors its namesake’s contributions to the environment. College juniors, seniors, or those in a graduate program to study chemical, civil or environmental engineering or an environmental science may be eligible for the $5,000 green scholarship. Its principals of simplicity, economy and innovation drive the company’s philosophy and its sponsorship of this scholarship for being green conscious. Applications are accepted until January 31.

The organic foods company Annie’s Homegrown strives to grow and market natural foods to its customers. Their philosophy: Planet to Food, Food to People, and People to Planet sustains the company as well as Annie’s Sustainable Scholarships in Agriculture. This year $75,000 in environment scholarships will be provided to support future farmers in their education and profession. Winners are announced in April.

2011 marks the 12th Annual Brower Youth Awards which reward six outstanding leaders in the areas of conservation, preservation and restoration of the planet. Each recipient of a $3000 green scholarship must be between the ages of 13-22, live in North America and must have organized an environmental project. The environmental scholarship for green students is funded by the Earth Island Institute which also sends the recipients to San Francisco for a weekend which pairs environmental concern and leadership development together. Individuals will attend training and conferences that boost knowledge and skills in these areas. Applications for the 2011-2012 school year must be submitted online by May 16th, 2011.

There are numerous unknown green scholarships available for environmentally conscious students. While not all require an academic emphasis for monetary eligibility, most do seem to prefer students who are passionate enough in their concerns for the planet to seek further education and employment in some area of environmental studies. In addition to typical green scholarships, you should also look for internships or funded practical experience. Since environmentalists want to encourage students to enter similar fields, many businesses will offer paid student positions which help financial need but also give you practical experience which will set you apart from other students when entering the job market.

Family Scholarships Unknown and Hidden

Family Scholarships are offered in many different forms for many different reasons and are really unknown scholarships because they’re hidden out of sight.

Family Scholarships

Family Scholarships are offered in many different forms for many different reasons and are really unknown scholarships to most all students because they’re so obscure and hidden out of sight. They may be here today and gone tommorrow too. There are many of them, but finding them is difficult and you may most often see them in a news blurb on the internet. You may have a good chance of winning them because of these reasons as the competition may be low as well as the number of applicants as well.

Often a family college scholarship are offered in the memory of a loved one who may have passed on due to some illness, or for a member of a family which was interested in a particular field and was actively involved in their goals. As it is a family scholarship is pretty common, students looking into this catagory will find a lot of various offerings once you start to unearth them. However, the matter is not always simply cut and dry. Many family scholarships are offered for particular fields or only in local areas, making access to these programs very selective.

Students interested in a family scholarship should look their options over carefully in order to make sure that they meet all of the criteria for the program. Those students who may be looking for a family scholarship for college should start looking locally first making searches with phrases like “family scholarships Florida” or even more specific “family scholarships Houston, TX.” While there are many family scholarships that are offered locally, students should also consider looking at the national level, though they should also expect these programs to be incredibly competitive.

Finally, family scholarships are also often offered through more broadly focused foundations such as the Organization for Autism Research (OAR) which provides the Schwallie Family Scholarship Program every year. Students would be wise to look at organizations which may relate to them to see if a family scholarship exist within the groups which may be able to provide them with additional financial aid. The OAR Schwallie family scholarship awards multiple $3,000 scholarships every year to students who have been diagnosed with autism or asperger syndrome. They are offered for those students in four year universities, community colleges and attending a trade or vocational school. In order to be eligible for this program students will need to have been formally diagnosed with the condition and attending or planning to attend an institution falling under one of the afore mentioned types. All applicants will need to be enrolled at least part time while attending school and have a declared major. In order to be considered all application material must be submitted no later April 29, 2011.

Western Union family scholarships offer up awards under an initiative to provide aid for migrants, immigrants and their families. The unknown scholarship is awarded to two people from the same family. Eligibility for this family scholarship requires that applicants be at least 18 years old, been in the United States for at least seven years and be attending school for an undergraduate degree. Further restrictions are placed on locations meaning that only residents of certain cities in the United States will be eligible to apply. The two family recipients will receive a total of $1,000 to $5,000 depending on financial and educational needs. All application materials are due no later than April 21, 2011.

Some unheard of family scholarships are available only through organizations to which individuals belong. The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) is an American-based employee union which offers just such a family scholarship. In order to be eligible for this program, students must be a family member of an AFSCME member in good standing. All applicants must be graduating from high school and be applying to an accredited university as a full time student in a four year program. Though the 2011 competition is closed at this time, this program is offered every year and students should look for 2012 applications to be available soon. The yearly deadline for this program is December 31.

An example of a family scholarship available only in a certain area is the Boulos Family Scholarship which is only offered for those students attending school in Maine. All applicants must be military personal who have served in Iraq or Afghanistan or are currently serving in the post 9/11 world. Awards range from $340 to $1,260. Though at this time all available money for the program has been assigned, students interested in signing up and becoming an active part of the program’s waiting list may still apply.

Family college scholarships are out there and you just have to search to discover them. In fact, they may be all around you and once you start digging you may be surprised at how widespread but hidden they are. Inquiring and probing for them is the the only way to find them.

Unclaimed Scholarships

Unclaimed scholarships for college do exist but not in abundance. In fact you will have to stumble across them to have any chance of really finding them.

unclaimed-scholarships
Unclaimed Scholarships

Unclaimed scholarships for college do exist but not in abundance. In fact you will have to stumble across them to have any chance of really finding them. Students looking for financial assistance are often looking everywhere they possibly can to root out additional sources of funding. Many of these students have gone through the normal check – looking at the demographic characteristics, checking out career oriented opportunities, consulting with local financial aid offices or considering offerings by individual departments at universities. Still they may come up short and begin searching one last time before they give up and turn to student loans to fill their remaining aid gap.

Unclaimed scholarships are, in reality, fairly rare – most scholarship institutions publicize the heck out of their programs and generally have more applicants than they can afford to cover. Though not entirely a myth, the idea that billions of dollars goes unrewarded every year in the United States is incredibly incorrect, though there are in fact some unclaimed scholarships out there. Students interested in unclaimed scholarships will want to get kind of weird with their searches, looking for quirks that may not have occurred to them originally in their research. Consider for instance tall scholarships or the single left-handed scholarship offered from Juniata University – though these programs rarely qualify as unclaimed scholarships, they are less frequently taken advantage of when compared to larger, nationally offered programs.

The myth which underlies the idea of unclaimed scholarships comes from a number of sources, but most often cited is the 1983 report from the National Commission on Student Financial Assistance. Other claims come from fairly shaky ground in which lose statistical methods have been applied in order to work out an overall lack of funding. Remember the game some kids used to play called Telephone? The effect here is similar – over time as these reports and data have made their rounds from person to person, the information has been exaggerated or used incorrectly, leading to the widespread belief that unclaimed scholarships are incredibly common, when in fact they are unknown scholarships to almost all students and will only reveal themselves by actively looking for student aid.

There is no direct evidence that popular foundations, which are often incredibly overwhelmed with responses to their scholarships offerings, or even other groups, have billions of dollars of unused scholarship money each year. One of the things this myth does get right, however, is that there is pretty clear evidence that people do not often take advantage of employer tuition programs which, apart from a blip in the employee manual, are often left out of an employee’s general knowledge. As a result these programs often end up as unclaimed scholarships.

It is not uncommon for even small businesses to offer tuition assistance programs either in the form of direct scholarship aid or tuition reimbursement, and interested students should either talk to a human resources person or consult their employee manuals for more information. While in some places these programs are widely used, it may be unlikely that say a gas station clerk would guess that their company offers tuition reimbursement programs, which leaves some of these employment areas having unclaimed college scholarships.

Unclaimed scholarships do exist, but they are rare and students will have to do some digging in order to turn them up. Some of these programs come from schools where, as a fictional example, a scholarship for a blind individual may exist but no students on the campus meet the criteria needed to take advantage of the program. Instances of unclaimed college scholarships are normally related to heavy eligibility restrictions which limit applicant pools or local availability where no local person meets the necessary requirements to get access to a program.

Unless a student is so incredibly desperate for financial aid that they will consider a college based on a single unclaimed scholarship which they happen to have the eligibility for, these programs should not really concern students who otherwise would not be able to get an award.

While it can be hard at times to find all of the financial assistance students will need in order to afford college capably, they should focus directly on more attainable programs instead of searching for the rare or extra quirky unclaimed scholarship money that may, on some off-chance, be available somewhere. Of course if a student has some extra time and is still considering their options for educational institutions checking in on what unclaimed scholarships may be available is certainly a good option, but otherwise this sort of search results in a general waste of time and energy.

Walt Disney Scholarships Unknown

While there are many obvious choices when looking for financial aid today their are those unknown scholarships such as the Walt Disney scholarships to consider.

Walt-Disney-Scholarships
Walt Disney Scholarships

While there are many obvious choices when looking for financial aid today their are those unknown scholarships such as the Walt Disney scholarships to consider. This is one place students often forget to look to which are offered by private foundations, especially from groups like Walt Disney. This is surprising because with the focus Walt Disney has on young audiences, it should be expected that they may be interested in funding academic achievement in the youth they profit so handsomely from.

Walt Disney scholarships come in many different forms, some offered directly through their Junior Achievers awards, and others sponsored from their foundation through specific institutions. Students who are looking to find a Walt Disney scholarship should always check with the university they are enrolled in to see if they participate in any programs with the Walt Disney Foundation, and if they do not, look directly over their website to see if they are eligible for the direct Junior Achievement awards. Keep in mind that although many students may not have thought to look exactly at Walt Disney, enough young people are involved in these programs to make them highly competitive.

Through the the Junior Achievement awards, Walt Disney scholarships normally exist through a couple independent projects such as the Excellence through Ethics essay contest and the Joe Francomano Scholarship. Separately, though under the Walt Disney banner, is the annual Resort Scholarships which should be considered by students as well.

The Walt Disney scholarships offered through the Junior Achievement Awards come through individual programs. One of these programs is the Excellence through Ethics essay contest in which students submit a 500 word essay looking to address an ethical issue in the world at large. This Walt Disney scholarship offers $5,000 to one winner which will be submitted to the university the chosen student is currently or is planning to attend to help pay for tuition costs. The essays are judged by considering whether or not they display a clear understanding of the use of business ethics, have a rational point of view, was original in its analysis and was well written. It is open to all high school seniors who are preparing to head off to college immediately after graduation. Though no 2011 date has been announced yet, this annual little known Disney scholarship 2011 is expected to have an April 30 deadline as it has in every previous year.

Another obscure Disney scholarship offered through the Junior Achievement Awards is the Joe Francomano Scholarship offered annually. Though it only awards a single $5,000 corporate scholarship every year, those who have won previously may renew every year for up to four years making the overall award potentially $20,000. In order to be eligible for the Joe Francomano Scholarship by Disney, students must be a high school senior preparing to graduate and enter college. An essay of less than 250 words must be submitted on a specific question relating to a current event and three letters of recommendation must be submitted for the student. The deadline for this unheard scholarship is February 1, so students should keep this in mind as they plan to apply in the next year.

Though the Walt Disney scholarships offered through the Junior Achievement awards are a great source of financial aid, they are not the only source of these programs. Every year since 2006 the Disneyland Resort Scholarship Program has awarded ten $5,000 scholarships to high school seniors preparing to head off to college. While restricted to residents of Orange County, California, this Disney scholarship 2011 represents its own great award by requiring applicants to have worked at least 100 hours in a single year in local community projects. They will also need to have at least a 3.0 grade point average and also be a graduating high school senior. The deadline for this program is January 31 annually.

Looking at all of these programs and considering the other distant Walt Disney scholarships not listed here, one thing becomes incredibly clear: they are looking for encouraging applicants from youthful demographics. If you have been heavily involved in your community, enjoy thinking about critical issues in the world at large, have a strong academic background and are preparing to head off to college after graduation from high school, the Walt Disney Corporate foundation scholarship programs are likely right up your alley. Get to know them and if you qualify – apply to them.

ME Scholarship by Go Daddy

Have you heard of the Me scholarship by Go Daddy? It’s one of those unknown scholarships and it’s an internet scholarship.

Me-scholarship-Go Daddy
Me-scholarship-by-Go Daddy

Have you heard of the Me scholarship by Go Daddy? It’s an internet scholarship. There are unknown  scholarships to meet almost any occasion or personal background which enables students from a diverse pool to apply to almost any number of scholarships at their disposal. As the Internet and its related technologies pervades our daily lives more each year, it is not surprising to find that some unknown scholarships are offered to students which revolve around the topic. The .ME Scholarship offered by Go Daddy is one such example, as it is available to those students looking for unknown scholarship funding who have used the Internet to the greater advantage of their education over time.

Have you used the Internet to do research for school? Perhaps you have developed social networking pages for your school clubs or academic interests. Maybe you keep or read a blog documenting educational items or engage in conversations on academic topics through forums. If you use the Internet to develop yourself along academic lines, the .ME scholarship, and those like it, may be a good place for you to start looking for additional financial aid. Potential applicants who are interested in the Go Daddy .ME scholarship will want to have a firm grasp on how the Internet has aided them in their studies or contributed to their overall academic progress. Since the Go Daddy Scholarship is built around and for students who use the Internet as a regular part of not only their lives but also in their schooling, it is important that they display clearly how these technologies have impacted them positively over time.

Like all corporate scholarships, the .ME scholarship has a series of specific eligibility requirements. Because of their basic nature, however, a wide swath of above average students will be able to apply. If you have a grade point average over 3.0 along with an ACT score over 18 or an SAT score over 860, you have already met some of the basic requirements of this program. On top of clear academic achievement, the .ME Go Daddy scholarship also requires that students be entering or attending an accredited college by fall of 2011 and be a resident of the United States.

The Go Daddy internet scholarship is highly competitive as it offers $10,000 to only 10 selected applicants. This should tell those interested in the program that they are going to need more than decent grades and good test scores to gain access to the funding. They will need a well thought out description of how the Internet has impacted them and have two glowing letters of recommendation from professionals in the field.

While good grades and scores are going to be a central indicator of a student’s academic abilities, the 500 word essay is truly their moment to shine. It is through the 500 word essay that applicants to the ME scholarship can display not only their grasp of language but flaunt how they have used the Internet in the pursuit of their education. Students should talk about study groups based on the internet, or online lectures they have watched or listened to. Highlight any social media groups they have joined or participated in which encourages learning or education through support and projects. If it has helped a student in learning and it is based on the internet then it should be mentioned in the essay.

The deadline for the 2011 Go Daddy .ME Scholarship is March 31. Because students also need to get two letters of recommendation from professionals it will be very important to mark these date in a calendar and keep an eye on it as it looms. Students will want to approach teachers or perhaps employers to ask for a letter of recommendation and give them enough time to write out a carefully considered letter. The sooner a student approaches their letter writers the better, as professionals will have to write the letter as their work schedules and personal lives permit.

If a student sits on this request for too long, they should not be surprised that they are turned down by their perspective letter writers as they simply may not have enough time to think of a letter before the required deadline. Students should also give their recommenders a white envelope and stamp, as is common practice, so that the letter can be sealed and returned to a student securely. If all the above sounds like you then apply to the Me scholarship soon! This is a pure internet scholarship, unknown to most college students.

Special Scholarships are Unusual Scholarships

When applying for unusual special scholarships you will find that you are incredibly busy. Special college scholarships are unknown to most college students.

Special Scholarships are Unusual College Scholarships
Special Scholarships

When it comes time to start applying for unusual special scholarships, you will find that you are incredibly busy. You will also find that the ‘standard scholarships’ are highly competitive, and you may have to get creative in your search. You need to know how to find those truly unusual special scholarships that are really unknown scholarships to most college students.

Special scholarships are any unknown scholarships that are more targeted, and that fewer people are eligible for or apply to. These may be the hardest scholarships to find, for all intents and purposes, once you find them they are the easiest to win simply because fewer people are eligible for them.

To find these special college scholarships, you have to start thinking outside of the box, so to speak. For example, you may have been searching for scholarships that are based on your academic achievement or your talent as a musician. You may do better to search for some unknown scholarships that are based on your intended course of study and future career. For example, if it is your intent to work in the field of aviation maintenance, you should search for scholarships for aviation maintenance. The more you can narrow down your intended career or course of study, the better your chances will be of winning the special scholarships that you apply for.

You also need to combine attributes when searching for special scholarships. For example, if you will be studying engineering, and you are a woman, you should search for scholarships for women who will study engineering. When you do this, you will find the Michael Baker Corporation Scholarships for Women and Minority Engineering Students. Combine as many attributes that apply for you when you are conducting your searches for special scholarships.

Don’t forget the strange scholarships. These are special scholarships that have little or nothing to do with your academic achievement or field of study. Instead, they pertain to some physical characteristic or strange ability that you may possess. For example, the Tall Clubs International Scholarship is awarded to men who are taller than six foot, two inches, and females who are five feet, ten inches tall. The Frederick and Mary F. Beckley Scholarship is available to those students who are left handed for a left handed scholarship. Do you have an awesome apple pie recipe? If so, you could win $25,000 to pay for college from the Culinary Institute of America. You may even find unusual special scholarships that are awarded only to people with your last name, but you won’t know this if you don’t look.

There are special scholarships for disabled students who because of their disabilities are eligible to apply to them. For instance students who are hearing impaired can apply to deaf scholarships by the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Just think of a disability and most likely there may be an unheard of special college scholarships for it.

Then there are the special education scholarships which are for designed for teachers who will be teaching students who have many special challanges or disabilities such as ADD or physical disabilities. There are also special needs scholarships for students as well.

There are also the special forces scholarships which are specifically military related scholarships such as the air force, army, navy, marines or ROTC. This field of study is not for every one but a perfect fit for some.

Also consider certain jobs. Many fast food restaurants offer unknown special scholarships to their high school employees to help pay for college. If you work as a golf caddie, did you know that you are eligible for the Evans Scholars Foundation Scholarship? If you are entering a medical field, you can apply for the Tylenol Scholarship, which awards between $5000 and $10,000. If you are under four feet, ten inches tall, you qualify for the Billy Barty Foundation scholarship for short people.

When you start thinking outside of the box or the mainstream when you search for unusual college scholarships, and you search for special scholarships instead, you will easily find a mountain of special scholarship funds that you are eligible for simply because of whom you are, what you look like, what your interests are, what your abilities are, and more. In fact, if there are enough unique or special things about you, you could fund a four year education with unique special scholarships.

Your talents as they relate to the selection criteria will be the only thing that is considered, which is why you need to apply for the little known special needs scholarships as well. If you have more than one disability, make sure that you seek out unknown scholarship opportunities for each disability that you have. For example, if you are hearing impaired and wheelchair bound, you qualify for scholarships designed for both groups.

Elks National Scholarship

The Elks Scholarship awards have three different types of Elks National Scholarship Plans which are offered through the Elks National Foundation. They tend to be unknown scholarships because most people don’t associate the Elks Lodge with scholarships. Besides being one of the largest financial supporters of a college education you may be asking yourself “but who are the Elks and what are they all about”?

The Elks is a multi faceted organization dedicated to one goal, that of the betterment of our communities. There are few more worthy ways to better our future than to invest in the education of our future leaders and to that end the Elks National Foundation grants over 3.60 million dollars in Elks Scholarships across the nation per year. Even though the Elks National scholarships are distributed nationally all applications and funds go through the local Elks lodge making the process more personal and geared to the needs of the youth of the community.

The Elks were founded on the ideal of service to mankind. In a 1928 speech Elks President John F. Malley envisioned a mighty army for good united to serve mankind. Elks achieve this by investing in their communities. They invest time, money, effort and their focus is diverse. Youth of course are the promise of tomorrow and volunteers from the local, state and national level invest their time to further that dream. Community service, volunteering and furthering the goals of the group are a strong focus of all Elks members.

The Elks Scholarships

The Legacy Scholarships by the Elks benefit students of current Elk members in good standing and these scholarships vary in size. Normally up to 250 $4,000 ($1,000 per year for 4 years) scholarships are awarded annually for Legacy Elks scholarships. You can apply from September 1st of every year.

The Most Valuable Student Scholarships sponsored by the Elks award 500 scholarships across the nation ranging in amounts of $1,000 per year to $15,000 per year over a four-year period and are for students who excel both in character, charity and scholastic ability. Emergency Educational Grants from the Elks are available to children of deceased or fully disabled Elks Members. These awards are from $1,000 to $3,000 yearly and they are renewable. You can apply anytime from July 1st to December 31st.

The two below Elk sponsored unknown scholarships are also offered to Scouts and can be applied to at your local Elk club lodge. They are restrictive in nature in that only scouts who have reached the highest level of scouting possible can only apply.

The Elks National Foundation Scholarship awards The Elks Eagle Scout Scholarships which are (4) $8,000 & (4) $4,000 scholarships. You must apply before February 28th. This Elks lodge scholarship is for those scouts who have reached a ‘eagle scout’ status to apply only. Must be a high school senior to apply.

The Elks Girl Scout Gold Award Scholarships are for those girl scouts who have reached the highest ranking possible in Girl Scouting – The Gold Award. There will be (8) $6,000 Elk club scholarship awards. Must be a high school senior to apply.

The Elks Scholarship Programs are for undergraduate study only. All scholarship funds are paid directly to the school except in certain conditions. If the scholarship funds are to be used against attendance expenses such as dorm rooms the student must have the University or college issue a certificate of attendance and that must be forwarded to the Chicago Elks, a check will then be issued to the school for credit for the student. All scholarship awards from Elks National Scholarship will also come with a certificate of award, except for the Emergency Educational Grants. You must be a high school senior to apply for the Most Valuable Student Scholarships and the Legacy Elks Scholarships. To apply to the Emergency Educational Grants Elk Scholarship you must be under the age of 23. It’s definitely worth becoming a member of the Elks even if you are not awarded an Elks Club Scholarship because of the many useful benefits which this club offers for families. To read more about joining go to the Elks Club.

Elks Scholarship checks are generally issued through the months of June July and August. Applications for an Elks scholarship must be made directly through the local Elks lodge and it will be forwarded to the national office to be evaluated.
