Many unusual women Hispanic scholarships may go unclaimed because Latina women from traditional families are taught that their role is to remain at home and raise children. These monies, of between $500 and $5,000 are offered to candidates who maintain a grade point average, or GPA, of 3.0.
Another unusual scholarship opportunity is presented by an association of Hispanic community sponsors for Latina women residing in the San Francisco Bay area. This organization, called the Chicana/Latina Foundation Scholarship Committee, provides tuition assistance of $1,500 to eligible Latina women who have lived in the Bay area for two years, and are attending college in one of the area counties. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA. Graduate hispanic scholarships and undergraduate awards are available to eligible applicants.
Other unique scholarships programs are sponsored by the Latin American Women’s Professional Foundation. This organization has chosen to grant hispanic scholarships of $500 each to Latina women pursuing their educational dreams at an accredited university in the United States. A similar opportunity is offered through the Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, which awards between $200 and $1,000 to eligible applicants each year. This hispanic women scholarship is offered through individual chapters of the sorority throughout California, so students should apply with their local chapter.
Latina college students who are enrolled in undergraduate programs in math, computer science, or related subjects may want to consider the scholarships available through Microsoft Corporation. This company offers two minority scholarships of interest. One is for minority students and the other is for female students who choose to major in math, computer, and science-related disciplines. Both full and partial tuition scholarships are offered to students who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.
Latina women face major obstacles to attending college, including finances, cultural traditions, and family needs. They also have many little unknown and unusual opportunities for Hispanic women scholarships, which are offered through a number of organizations who have strong interest in seeing Latina women succeed.
